SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EMS MINISTRIES

cross & sky background by † David Gunter.

Written by Capt. Ed Castillo

It was decided that something more needs to be done to support the thousands of men and women across this nation who serve as paramedics and EMT's, spiritually speaking. As a Christian myself of 20 years and having experienced many ups and downs in my life without the help of others, I thought to myself that perhaps in these last days, I should create a ministry that will serve to offer guidance and support to the brave men and women who work as paramedics and EMT's. We all know that fire departments have their chaplains and police departments have their chaplains but what about the rest? Well, I see a need that needs to be fulfilled and with God's help, I will certainly do my best with his help.

Being that I have been in the fire and EMS field for 20 years, I have seen that many churches and its members are quite unprepared for any type of emergency or natural disasters. I believe that every church should have a volunteer team that is trained to serve the needs of the church and the community in a medical emergency or disaster. Within the last year I have been fortunate enough to work with a few mega-churches in Southern California that have retained my service in helping them put together EMS Ministries. What is an EMS Ministry you ask? It is a ministry that utilizes members of their church for medical standby during services, for outreaches into the community, and for disaster response. How many times have you heard of someone collapsing in a service due to a heart attack with no available trained ushers or servants? We hear of this quite a bit and to me this is a great deal. Every church should be prepared for anything and are not immune by any means. Some Pastors have an attitude that they are untouchable but the truth is they are not.

So, through this ministry there is a strategy that incorporates two prongs. The first prong is to support those paramedics and EMT's who are need of spiritual support and the second prong is to support those churches that see a need to develop an EMS Ministry. The time is now to act and with prayer and diligence, I believe that with God, nothing is impossible.

Lastly, as the owner of Southern California EMS, I believe wholeheartedly in community service. This should be the staple of any company. What you give, will certainly come back in good tidings.

WILSHIRE THEATER (BEVERLY HILLS) CONTRACTS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EMS TO REPLACE CURRENT MEDICAL STANDBY VENDOR

August 28th, 2008 - Beverly Hills, CA - In a move to improve the quality of care to guests attending shows at the Wilshire Theater, the management has contracted Southern California EMS to provide medics to all shows effective immediately. This move comes after a few incidents involving the previous vendor and their total lack of professionalism. In an incident involving a diabetic who collapsed lacerating his head during a show, one of the previous medics failed to act swiftly and was described as frozen at the scene. This was the last straw for the Wilshire management who had a history of working with a vendor who was unresponsive and unavailable to deal with management's concerns.

This is an all too common problem with other medical standby companies in the Los Angeles area. Too many companies will hire EMT's without first checking their backgrounds and even administering written/skills testing. Most companies will hire anybody regardless of lack of experience due to greed. This is a huge problem resulting from the fact that the medical standby industry is not regulated. There needs to be sweeping changes in the way EMT's are hired and Southern California EMS is leading the charge to raise the bar. Companies are being put on notice to change their ways.

This new contract will give Southern California EMS its post summer season boost and will allow this elite team to deliver the quality of care and professionalism like no other medical standby company can.

Southern California EMS takes on Saugus High School

June 26th, 2008, Santa Clarita, CA - Southern California EMS (www.socalems.com) announced that it has acquired the Saugus Centurion football medical standby account to begin in fall of 2008. This new account is welcome as the owner, Ed Castillo, is a graduate of Saugus and will allow him to give back what the school gave him to prepare for his life and career.

Additionally, Southern California EMS also serves the La Crescenta High School football program by offering the Eagles the best trained medics to look after injured players and/or spectators at the games. Saugus High will receive the same quality care and medics that care.

The company spends a great deal of time training it's staff on sports related injuries and to deal with them effectively. This includes helmet removal, spinal, and spearing injury training specifically geared towards football. Southern California EMS also spends a great deal of time learning and reviewing CIF rules and regulations in regards to football injury protocol.

With ambulance companies charging exorbitant fees for medical standby, Southern California EMS offers high schools a low cost alternative to rising prices by such agencies as American Medical Response.

Southern California EMS – Set Medics Above The Rest

In an industry that is largely unregulated, Southern California EMS has raised the bar but only a few will reach it.

Los Angeles, CA – When it comes to private companies offering set medics, all are not the same in an industry that is largely unregulated. This industry has experienced a boom in recent years as EMT’s and Paramedics among others have sought ways to find more lucrative opportunities using their skills and this has resulted in a surge companies offering set medics. For some their motives are questionable such as those who want to meet celebrities and use this to make money from tabloids by providing privileged information for a profit.

During the last year, Southern California EMS (www.socalems.com) has raised the bar by going above and beyond to ensure that production companies receive the most seasoned and proficient medics for their sets. This means never having a medic sitting in a chair reading a paper as allowed by some unions. Too often production companies receive medics who are inexperienced and unprofessional which presents potential problems if something should occur on the set of filming.

The founder of Southern California EMS, Captain Ed Castillo, who being a 20 year veteran of the fire/ems field has used his experience to create one of the most professional organizations to hit the film industry in recent years. This is a company that goes the extra mile to stand out above the rest and this can be seen through their professionalism and demeanor. They also go to great lengths to ensure privacy and confidentiality of celebrity information and production information.

The most important aspect of Southern California EMS is they abide by all laws and standards pertaining to scope of practice where some others over step those boundaries or they dispense over-the-counter medications opening themselves up to liability.

CAPTAIN ED CASTILLO, FOUNDER OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EMS TO BE FEATURED ON CHRISTIAN TALK RADIO

Ed Castillo is being interviewed by Kurt Goff of KSOS FM based in Las Vegas, NV

Santa Clarita, CA – Captain Ed Castillo of Southern California EMS (www.socalems.com) will be interviewed by Kurt Goff (Total Impact) of KSOS FM based in Las Vegas, NV on Wednesday April 16th at 6:10pm. KSOS (www.sosradio.net) is a Christian talk radio station that is heard in over 9 states including California.

The topic of the interview is church disaster preparedness. Ed has recently started a campaign to raise awareness on this most important subject and hopes to get the attention of church leaders and members all across the nation. With an increased frequency of disasters being reported yearly, it is time that churches act now before it is too late. It is widely accepted that during times of disaster, the community will look to the church for guidance and support.

Ed’s specialty is consulting with churches in disaster preparedness by creating and helping to implement emergency action plans as well as assisting churches in creating their own EMS ministry which is similar to CERT. All EAP’s address the critical components such as what to do before, during and after a disaster strikes. Although each church presents different challenges such as geographical areas and types of disasters, the core information in the EAP is always the same.

Southern California EMS Reaching Out to Churches

With Disaster Preparedness on the minds of many, Southern California EMS is a key player in assisting churches.

Los Angeles, CA, March 31, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Southern California EMS has begun to double its efforts to reach out to churches and Christians in an effort to spread the message of disaster preparedness.

In this day and age, natural disasters are expected to occur with more frequency prompting church officials to prepare for the inevitable. In the past couple of years, we have all seen such disasters as hurricane Katrina and the powerful tsunami that hit Sumatra killing thousands of people.

This comes as no surprise to church leaders as the bible clearly predicts such incidents to come yet so many people and churches around the country are reluctant to do anything to prepare themselves for a natural disaster.

With so much information available on the subject of disaster preparedness, some feel overwhelmed by it all and left to wonder where they should start. Some even abandon the idea of preparing saying that they do not have the time to invest. This is a dangerous position to be in especially in the Southern California region which is prone to earthquakes. The last major quake was in January 1994 with smaller quakes rattling the area since then.

Two years ago, the Southern California EMS church preparedness division was created to assist churches specifically in the area of disaster preparedness and to help guide them in creating an emergency action plan as well as implementing the plan. The company also specializes in helping churches create their own emergency medical services ministry utilizing members of their congregations and with great success.

The founder of Southern California EMS, Captain Ed Castillo decided that it was time for a company to address the needs of churches all over the nation. As a devout Christian himself, he wanted to reach out to churches and Christians who needed expert guidance in disaster preparedness. He draws upon his 20 year career in the fire and EMS field to deliver real world solutions and guidance.

Additionally, Ed is a church speaker that shares his experiences in the fire and EMS field and uses this to teach Christians why they should heed the warnings of the bible and prepare for the worst. Ed states, “Natural disasters are equal opportunity destroyers!” He is currently writing a book that will be a guide to churches and Christians on disaster preparedness.

Southern California EMS Is Out To Make A Difference

Summer is fast approaching and Southern California EMS is preparing to provide EMT’s, Paramedics, and Lifeguards for events of all sizes and types.

Santa Clarita, CA, February 15, 2008 As Summer is fast approaching, people are thinking and planning ahead for their pool parties and events. Event planners are preparing for weddings and corporate events all over Southern California and here in the Santa Clarita Valley. There is excitement in the air that can not be contained.

As people and event planners are preparing for each detail, there is often one area that is neglected and in recent years has been getting more and more attention due to the media. That one area is on-site medical standby provided by Paramedics, EMT’s or Lifeguards. Southern California EMS, based in Santa Clarita, is aware of the importance of having on-site medical personnel at such events. This has been made very clear with such media coverage of the drowning at rocker Tommy Lee’s pool party in 2003 or the heat related injuries at a Chicago marathon in 2007.

The owner, Ed Castillo, a resident and graduate of Saugus high school is on the frontlines of educating people about the benefits of such services. Most people and especially event planners are not even aware that a company such as Southern California EMS exists to serve in this area. Most people call local ambulance companies only to find that they often charge between $500.00 to $600.00 per hour for an ambulance and a basic crew of EMT’s. That can be quite cost prohibitive for those who have a limited budget such as high schools needing a crew for their football games.

The benefit of on-site medics or lifeguards at events is far reaching and can make the difference between life and death. A person having a heart attack has but minutes for someone to provide rapid medical intervention. We all know that fire dept. response times have decreased due to rising traffic congestion or by limited staffing. On-site medics can aid in the chain of survival.

Southern California EMS is the leading provider of medics and lifeguards for the music, film, sports, and events industry in the region. What makes this company unique is the fact that unlike other on-site medical standby companies, they require all candidates to take a written and physical agility test as well as undergo extensive background/drug checks to ensure that the staff is competent and well seasoned. This means a lot to parent who needs a lifeguard at their children’s pool party.

In addition to on-site medical standby, the company offers training to children 9 to 12 years old in the area of earthquake preparedness. The DisasterSafe program offers interactive training and coaching to kids in the areas of first aid, fire safety, survival, and much more. This class was designed to give the kids the confidence they need to function during times of disaster. Other classes are pet first aid and CPR/First Aid.

Ed Castillo’s passion is working with churches all over the United States in helping them prepare their emergency action plans to serve their community in times of crisis. He also strongly believes in community service that includes collecting toys for children during the Holiday season.  He makes no bones about his caring attitude and making sure that the disaster preparedness message is heard by many.
