FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do you have current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification? Yes! All of our Lifeguards have the required minimum training needed to work as lifeguards. Some of our Lifeguards are also EMT's which mean they can provide more comprehensive pre-hospital care to the injured guest.

  • Do you have CPR certification? Yes! Each Lifeguard has his/her current American Heart Association CPR certification for the professional rescuer. The certifications are obtained through in-service training offered by various agencies.

  • Do you have first aid certification? Yes! At the minimum, all lifeguards are required to have first aid training however; we prefer hiring and sending out lifeguards with EMT certification. This is what makes us valuable in the Los Angeles events industry.

  • Are there specific pieces of safety equipment we need to provide for you? No! Each Lifeguard is outfitted with a rescue tube and first aid kit. Our Lifeguard/EMT's are outfitted with a trauma kit containing oxygen and airway kits. We have our own uniforms which identify us as Lifeguards.

  • Do you have references? Yes we do have references and can furnish them upon request. Please keep in mind that most of our business is consulting with homeowners on disaster preparedness and hosting training classes. We are actively attempting to build up our portfolio. Click Here!!

  • In addition to your trauma kits, do you also have an assortment of over-the-counter drugs that you bring? In accordance to the DOT and Los Angeles County scope of practice, we are not allowed to administer or hand out over-the-counter medications.

  • What as a medic are you allowed to do? An EMT-I is trained and certified in basic life support practices. Basic life support (BLS) means emergency first aid and CPR procedures which, at a minimum, include recognizing respiratory and cardiac arrest and starting the proper application of CPR to maintain life without invasive techniques until the patient can be transported or until advanced life support (ALS) is available. Automated external defibrillator (AED) training is now part of the basic scope of practice.

EMT-Is may obtain additional training to supplement their standard scope of practice. EMT-Is may become locally -approved to use a manual defibrillator or an esophageal-tracheal airway device (combitube), and practice endotracheal intubation (ET Intubation). The local EMS medical director for each county determines the use of these skills.

  • Can you give out any kinds of medications? The only medications we can administer or assist with are: Activated Charcoal, Oral Glucose, Oxygen, Prescribed Inhalers, Nitroglycerin, and Epi-pen auto-injectors.

  • Can you do physical therapy on cast and crew? No! We are strictly pre-hospital care providers that are trained to react in the event of a medical emergency. We can refer physical therapists for that need.
  • Can you provide an ambulance on set? Southern California EMS is a non-ambulatory medical standby company which means that at this time we do not have an ambulance or rescue squad available. If one is needed or desired, we can contact one of many partners to provide an ambulance on the set.

  • Are your medics trained in blast injuries? Our Tactical Medics are specially trained in battlefield type injuries including blast injuries. These medics are trained to operate in austere and hostile environments. We work well on sets that incorporate explosives.
  • Do you have union set medics? No! We do not hire or refer union set medics. There has never been a benefit of using set medics or even being a part of a union since there are more non-union set medic jobs in the Los Angeles market.
