EMS skills BOOT CAMP - coming in January 2009

In recent years, the media has exposed some major problems in the EMS field pertaining to skills proficiency among EMS providers as well as personal fitness. Seeing that this is a huge problem, Southern California EMS has designed a program that will challenge pre-hospital providers and push participants to the breaking point. The training is based on current military and tactical medic programs.

Most EMT schools do not address the importance of skills proficiency and for many, they go into the field lacking the knowledge to perform. All EMT schools do not address the importance of being physically fit and as Americans are getting larger waistlines, what is to say that an EMT will not be able to perform due to being out of shape, etc.

The purpose of the training is to allow EMT's to practice their skills in real life scenarios and under duress. This allows the EMT to think and act on the fly without delay. The second component is to add the physical element into the mix to illustrate why being physically fit is crucial.
