RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Southern California EMS is an authorized American Red Cross lifeguard training provider in the Santa Clarita Valley. We offer lifeguard classes year-round at various pools throughout the city of Santa Clarita. Our instructors are seasoned and professional guards who have worked the beaches/pools of Southern California and their knowledge is invaluable to those wishing to become lifeguards. Our class size is limited so that each student may get the attention they deserve resulting in skills proficiency.

Lifeguard and training certification includes the following:

  • Community First Aid
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer (Adult, Child and Infant)
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Preventing Disease Transmission
  • Emergency Response (CA Requirement)

(Class size is 1 instructor per 10 students)

Prerequisites for lifeguard certification class: (If you have any reservations about performing any of the required skills, this may not be the right course for you.)

  • Provide verification of the minimum age requirement of 15 years using a driver's license, birth certificate or passport only.
     
  • Swim 500 yards continuously, 200 yards of which must be front crawl with rhythmic breathing to the side, 100 yards of which must be breaststroke and 200 yards of which must be either front crawl with rhythmic breathing to the side or breaststroke or a combination of the two strokes.
     
  • Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick, swim 20 yards back to the starting point and tread water with the brick, with the face above water for 10 minutes

The cost per Lifeguard Candidate is $225.00 and includes:

  • Lifeguard Training manual
  • Pocket Mask
  • Use of Pool
  • Certification fees

**All classes are pass/fail, no exceptions. If you fail a class, you have the option of taking another class at another time.
